Brad Novotny – Co-Founder

Turf Specialist

Brad Novotny brings almost 25 years of professional Turfgrass Management experience to Blue Crab Turf & Landscape. Upon graduating from Loyola Blakefield in 1999, he attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a degree in Turfgrass Science. Brad spent decades managing premier private golf course properties where precision agronomy, environmental stewardship, and exceptional playing conditions were expected every day. His career has included leadership roles at respected clubs such as Green Spring Valley Hunt Club, Baltimore Country Club, Aronimink Golf Club, Hillendale Country Club, and Sparrows Point Country Club, where he developed a reputation for producing high-quality turf while managing soil health, water use, and long-term landscape sustainability.

Brad’s experience managing golf course turf at the highest level now serves as the foundation for Blue Crab’s residential and commercial turf care programs. He applies the same science-based approach used on championship golf courses—focusing on proper soil nutrition, responsible product selection, and timing applications based on weather and plant health rather than the calendar. The goal is simple: healthier lawns, fewer unnecessary inputs, and better long-term results for both the property and the environment.

As a lifelong Maryland resident, Brad is passionate about protecting the Chesapeake Bay and the landscapes that surround it. Through Blue Crab Turf & Landscape, he is committed to providing responsible turf and landscape services while supporting the region’s environmental health. The company proudly promotes practices that balance beautiful landscapes with ecological responsibility.

Brad enjoys spending time with his family, stand-up comedy, live music, and staying connected to the local community that Blue Crab proudly serves. His daughter, Kelly, attends Notre Dame Prep, where she enjoys art and dance. His son, Billy, is an accomplished lacrosse goalie at Loyola Blakefield and is currently enjoying the recruiting process as he explores opportunities to play at the collegiate level.

Owen Stalter – Co-Founder

Landscape Specialist

A Baltimore County native, Owen Stalter is the co-founder of Blue Crab Turf & Landscape. A graduate of Calvert Hall College High School (Class of 2006), Owen went on to earn his Associate’s Degree from the Community College of Baltimore County in Essex.

From an early age, Owen stayed busy working in the trades throughout high school and college, developing a strong work ethic and hands-on skillset that would later shape his professional path. After becoming a firefighter/EMT, Owen continued pursuing his entrepreneurial drive and recognized a growing need for reliable, professional outdoor services in his community. This led to the creation of Stalter Services LLC, a full-service landscape company he operated during his days off from the fire department.

Through years of working closely with properties and landscapes, Owen discovered a passion for plants—particularly native species and pollinator-supporting landscapes—and the critical role they play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. His work today focuses heavily on planting design, landscape improvements, and creating outdoor spaces that work in harmony with nature. Owen takes pride not only in the craftsmanship of each project but also in the professionalism, transparency, and client relationships that define the Blue Crab experience.

Owen has known co-founder Brad Novotny since the late 1990s through a longstanding family friendship. While their professional backgrounds differ, their skill sets complement one another exceptionally well. Together, they combine practical field experience, turf expertise, and a shared vision for thoughtful, environmentally responsible landscape care through Blue Crab Turf & Landscape.
